Bring your own picnic and join in the fun!

Picnic at the Riverside has been created by four Year 8 students at Sandhurst Secondary School. The aim is to get families together for a couple hours to enjoy a picnic by the side of the River Thames, and then participate in some of our organised activities.

What could be nicer than spending the afternoon sat in the sunshine with your family?

Don't forget a rug / blanket to sit on...

We have the following activities available:

  • Water sports
Wokingham Waterside Centre have kindly agreed to put on various water sports for us. A chance of clothes is recommended, as you may get wet!
  • Bouncy Castle
A bouncy castle will be available, provided by Total Parties
  • Sports & Games
A range of sports and games for children will be run throughout the event, such as an egg and spoon race, three-legged race and a toddler run.
  • Jumble Sale
We will be selling second-hand books, games and toys. We welcome all donations, so if you have any unwanted items at home, please bring them along and allow us to sell them for charity.
  • Raffle
We have been donated a Digital Drum kit with Lighting Guide & Game System (worth £60.00!) which we will be raffling.
  • Ice Cream Van
An ice cream van will be visiting, thanks to Tony Fresko Ice Cream Vans.
  • Plus more!

Activities are primarily aimed at children aged 0-10 years. Please note that some of the activities will be charged, with a percentage of money going to the WWF. 100% of the money raised from donation buckets, raffle tickets and the jumble sale will go to the WWF.

What to Bring

Entry to the Picnic at the Waterside is free, although donations are appreciated. 100% of money from our donation buckets will be given to the WWF. Some of the organised events will require a donation, such as raffle tickets.

We recommend that you bring the following to Picnic at the Waterside:

  • A picnic! Lunch is not provided, so unless you want to go hungry, pack a picnic!
  • A rug or blanket to sit on
  • Don't forget plastic glasses, cutlery and plates. Please don't bring any glass containers or glasses as they could get broken.
  • Lots to drink (especially water). It is easy to get dehydrated, especially if it is hot, so be sure to bring lots of water to keep yourself hydrated. It is best to bring drinks that can be sealed (i.e. bottles rather than cans) to avoid spillages.
  • Sunscreen. This is an outdoor event, and protection against the sun is vital.
  • Sun hats, especially for young children
  • A change of clothes is recommended if you are participating in our water sports activities.
  • Tissues / kitchen roll in case of spillages or runny noses!!
  • Sting relief and mosquito repellent. Hopefully it won't be necessary, but it's best bring them just in case.
  • An empty carrier bag to put all of your litter in
  • A football, frisbee, beach ball, etc. to create even more fun!
  • Your friends! The more people that come, the better this event will be. Bring as many people as you can!

Donate to charity!

If you have any old toys, books or games that are no longer used, please donate them to our jumble sale. Not only do you get the satisfaction of donating to a very worthwhile cause, but also ensure that your unwanted goods find someone new to play with them for years to come!

About the WWF

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) are the world's leading conservation body. They work on supporting wildlife and lessening the damage of human activity on them and the environment.

They are passionate about safeguarding the natural world. They help to people to change the ways that they live in order to combat threats like global warming. They have teams of professionals working with governments, business and communities both here in the UK and around the world.

The WWF work with all areas of human, animal and environmental life. They protect the living environments of endangered species and help with the conservation and protection of rare animals. They work hard to reduce the UK's carbon footprint in the world, by educating people on food, housing, transport and the economy. Not only this, but they do a lot of education work in schools and colleges to spread the word about how important it is to safeguard our future.

Picnic Recipes

We believe in the importance of getting your children involved in the kitchen. Cooking is a skill that will be essential in later life, and it's never too early to start!

Of course, we aren't suggesting that you let children handle knives or sharp objects, or put things in / out of the oven, but they can certainly help with stirring mixtures, weighing out ingredients and choosing which recipes to make.

Tip: Make this picnic extra special by trying our new recipes. You never know, you might just find a new favourite!
